Manitoba is launching a three-year pilot project, the West Central Immigration Initiative, to help fill the labour shortage in rural communities in the west-central region.
The project covers seven municipalities, namely:
These communities are expected to need 240-300 workers over the next three years through new job creation, retirement of current workers and overall economic development.
The project complements Manitoba’s existing provincial immigration programs. The province will also continue to work with other regional and rural municipalities to develop similar initiatives, according to Manitoba Minister of Labour and Immigration Malaya Marcelino.
