Exemption from medical examination

Canada is continuing its temporary policy of medical examination exemptions for certain foreign nationals in Canada.

This decision was made on October 12, 2022, to expedite the processing of applications. The temporary policy has been extended until October 5, 2029, to continue to support those who qualify for the exemption.

Applicants who:

are applying for temporary or permanent residence from within Canada;

have been medically examined at an authorized clinic within the past 5 years and are not a threat to public health or safety, or are under the supervision of a public health authority are exempt from the requirement to undergo a medical examination.

Applicants must provide their unique IME number at the time of application. Those who are not covered by this temporary policy must undergo a medical examination in accordance with the standard requirements.
